This is a 1937 edition by Harry B. Wehle on the history of Miniature paintings. He was the curator of Paintings at the Met in the 20's.
There are 175 portraits in the book. This is a very complete history of miniature paintings from 1730-1850. Before people had photographs available, paintings were the only way to have a likeness of yourself or a loved one. Miniature paintings have always fascinated me. Many are painted on unusual materials. This book is totally enjoyable for the many photographs, some in color. This book retains it's dust cover, even though it is not in great shape. Please see pictures for conditions. I think this is a great reference for a serious lover of art!
